Work party, lunch and workshop with Left Foot Organics
Left Foot Organics is a local vocational horticultural therapy program for people of all abilities. On Saturday, April 17, volunteers with The Olympia Project went out to Left Foot Organics for a farm work party followed by a hot lunch provided by our hosts and a workshop on mental health laws led by a mother of a child with autism.
Kirk Rose of Left Foot Organics writes: "We wanted to say a big thank you to the folks of the Olympia Project! Your work with us on moving gravel, transplanting chard, and turning compost was most appreciated. And, the time we spent together learning about communication was a wonderful experience with lasting impact!"

The Olympia Project gets free RENT
The Olympia Project rallied to see RENT at the Capital Playhouse on Wednesday, March 10. Artistic Director Jeff Kingsbury filled us in on how the theater operates as one of our community's most successful nonprofit arts organizations before and after the dress rehearsal. The Capital Playhouse is always looking for volunteers to take tickets and usher theater goers to their seats, and of course they'll be selling season tickets for the 2010-2011 season soon! Many thanks to the Capital Playhouse for a great evening!
Resolve 2010 a huge success!
It looks like a lot of people in our community resolved to do more to help others this year! The Olympia Project's big 2010 kick off was a huge success. On Saturday, January 30, Olympia Project volunteers collected six car loads of food for the food bank from customers at Bayview and Ralph's Thriftway. Then a big crowd celebrated with a benefit at The Royal. More than $1,000 was raised for the Thurston County Food Bank and the Volunteer Center. Big thanks to the management and staff of Bayview, Ralph's and The Royal as well as the five local acts that entertained us all evening - Eric Habermeyer (solo acoustic), Astronauts (blues/rock), Neon State (pop/rock) and Square and The Jimmy's (blues/rock).
And we’re just getting started! The Olympia Project has more than 12 events planned for 2010 to make community participation more fun by doing it together.

2009: Our Beta Year!
In January, 2009, three friends met at the Fish Tale Brew Pub to talk about this crazy idea that this is a better place to live, work and play when we’re all involved in our community. The Olympia Project was born with the mission of bringing together a younger generation to make community participation a whole lot more fun.
2009 has been our Beta year. We started with a simple Facebook page and by word of mouth we built a network of 184 people (and counting) who really care about our community. Together we completed four service projects with local nonprofit organizations, putting in a total of nearly 200 hours of work. We also organized four social events - two happy hours, a trivia night, and a gathering at Music in the Park.
The Olympia Project is now led by a Leadership Team of 14 very cool people and we’re planning a big launch for our little organization on Saturday, January 30, called Resolution 2010. We've got this nifty website (in addition to our Facebook group), a sweet logo, a mission statement and goals, and we’re looking forward to 12 more service projects and social events next year. We hope you’ll all be part of this great effort!

Big thanks to The Volunteer Center
The Volunteer Center of Lewis, Mason and Thurston Counties is a fantastic organization and they've taken us under their wing. That means our official address is 222 Columbia Street Northwest, Olympia, WA, 98501, just in case you want to send us a holiday card or a box of cookies.
More importantly, we encourage you to check out their website, www.volunteer.ws, to find out more about all the ways to help our community.
